How Steady works

Connect the bank once. Then stop doing the admin.

Four steps, and only the first one asks anything of you. After that Steady reads what your bank already knows and works out the answers you were opening a spreadsheet for.

01

Connect your bank, once

Steady reads your accounts through Akahu, an accredited requestor in New Zealand's regulated open banking system.

All 9 of them: ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Kiwibank, Westpac, TSB, The Co-operative Bank, SBS Bank and Heartland. You log in at your own bank, through Akahu's flow, and your bank password never reaches Steady.

2 years of history arrives with the connection — the maximum the regulated system serves — so Steady has something to work with on the first day rather than after a month of watching.

The connection is read-only and you can revoke it yourself. Moving your money is not something Steady is able to do.

Bills before payday−$1,240

02

Transactions arrive already sorted

They come in categorised, with the NZ merchants recognised by name, and a correction you make once sticks.

Woolworths is groceries, Z Energy is fuel, and a local dairy is not filed as “Other”. Where a merchant is unfamiliar the AI categorises it, and when you move something it learns that for next time.

Everything lands in 12 spending categories with subcategories under them, across every account you have connected, on one screen.

Bank data refreshes up to twice a day. Akahu delivers on a batch schedule rather than continuously, and no NZ bank offers a faster feed to anyone — so nothing here claims to be live.

The same transactions in Steady and in a bank app. The empty space is the point.

03

Set a goal and watch the date move

Give Steady a target and a deadline and it works out the weekly number, then tracks whether you are actually hitting it.

Budgets run on your pay cycle rather than the calendar month, because a fortnightly earner does not have months. You get a warning as a category approaches its limit, not a summary after it has gone.

Goals can be shared with a partner, linked to a real account, and broken into sub-goals. Spending toward a goal counts as progress rather than as a slip.

  • On your pay cycle
  • Warning at 80% of a budget
  • Shared goals
  • Weekly pace
House deposit$6,800 of $10,000

$180 landed automatically this week. On track for March.

A target, a pace, and the date it implies.

04

Ask it in plain words

“Can I afford Queenstown this weekend?” gets an answer from your actual balance and your actual upcoming bills.

Not a rule of thumb about twenty percent of income. Answers come back as charts as well as words, and you can ask by voice — the dictation is tuned for money, so amounts and NZ merchant names come out right instead of phonetically.

Steady is not a financial advice provider and does not give financial advice. It tells you what your own money is doing.

  • Voice input
  • Charts in answers
  • Your numbers, not averages

How much did I spend on food this week?

$156 across 9 buys. Groceries $94, takeaways $62 — about $23 less than last week.

It ends on a number and names what it accounted for.

What the connection can and cannot do

It is read-only, so moving your money is not something Steady is able to do — a property of the connection rather than a promise we are making. Your bank login goes to your bank through Akahu’s flow and never to Steady. You can revoke it yourself, from inside Steady or from Akahu, and take a full export of everything Steady holds at any time.

Steady is not a financial advice provider and does not give financial advice. It tells you what your own money is doing.
