Delete your Steady account

Steady is made by Steady Finance Limited, in New Zealand. You can delete your account and the data in it at any time, and you do not need to ask us first.

How to delete it yourself

  1. 1

    Open Settings

In the Steady app or at steady.nz/settings, scroll to the bottom of the page.
  2. 2

    Choose Delete account

You will be asked to confirm. This is deliberate: the deletion runs immediately and cannot be undone.
  3. 3

    Check your email

We send a confirmation listing exactly what was removed. If it does not arrive, the deletion still happened — email us and we will confirm it by hand.

If you cannot sign in

Email [email protected] from the address on the account and ask us to delete it. We will verify that the request came from you, delete the account, and reply to confirm. Under the Privacy Act 2020 we answer within 20 working days, and in practice it is far sooner.

Deleting some of your data, without closing your account

You do not have to choose between keeping Steady and removing data you would rather we did not hold. Each of these is immediate, and none of them requires asking us:

  • Disconnect a bank (Settings, then the connected account) — Removes the connection, every account under it and their whole transaction history, and revokes our access with Akahu. This is the big one: it deletes the bank data itself, not just the link to it.
  • Delete a coach conversation (the history list in Ask) — Removes that conversation and what you told it.
  • Delete a goal, budget, bill, investment holding, insurance policy or scenario (the item itself) — Each can be deleted on its own, and takes its history with it.
  • Remove a photo you uploaded (the card or profile it belongs to) — Deletes the image.
  • Remove a friend (their profile) — Ends the connection, and stops either of you seeing the other's activity.

If what you want removed is not in that list, email [email protected] and say what it is. The same 90-day backup window below applies to anything deleted this way.

What gets deleted with the account

All of it, from our live systems, at the moment you confirm:

  • Every transaction, account, goal, budget and bill
  • Your bank connections — revoked with Akahu, and the stored tokens destroyed
  • Any active subscription, cancelled with Stripe
  • Your sign-in credentials, deleted with Clerk
  • Your coach conversation history
  • Your profile, including any photo you uploaded

What is kept, and for how long

Three things, and we would rather say so than claim a total erasure that is not quite true.

Encrypted backups, for up to 90 days

Backups roll on a fixed cycle and your data ages out of them along with everything else. They are encrypted, nobody reads them, and they cannot be restored to an account that no longer exists.

A record that your email address unsubscribed

A one-way record, kept so we can honour that decision. Without it, deleting your account would be a way to accidentally opt yourself back into email. It holds nothing else about you.

Billing records

Where New Zealand tax law requires it, we keep invoice totals and dates. Not your transactions, and not your bank data.

Want your data before you go?

Export everything Steady holds from Settings first — deletion is immediate and there is no way to get it back afterwards. See how Steady handles your data for what we store and why.
